Gladys Aliyinza, a hopeful candidate for the Luuka Woman parliamentary seat, met a tragic end in the Busoga sub-region district. Her vehicle collided head-on with a sugarcane truck, resulting in her untimely death. The incident also claimed the life of her political assistant, Mr. Yusuf Biita, at the scene when their Isuzu double cabin pickup overturned multiple times.
President Museveni’s deputy press secretary, Faruk Kirunda, who had recently returned from Mecca for Holy Pilgrimage, shared the devastating news. In a somber post on X, previously Twitter, Kirunda expressed his profound grief over the loss of his wife in the fatal road crash.
“It’s a heavy blow on our young family and pray to Allah to see us through,” he conveyed, thanking everyone for the overwhelming sympathy and support extended during this trying time.
The driver of Ms. Aliyinza’s vehicle, whose identity remains undisclosed, was rushed to Musana Health Centre in Kaliro Town in critical condition. Details regarding the occupants of the Tata truck (registration UAU 073G) involved in the collision were not immediately available, as the truck carrying sugarcane also overturned during the incident.
