President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised a group of former members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) who have publicly distanced themselves from opposition politics.
During a meeting at Kololo, the President expressed appreciation to the converts and thanked them for what he described as a bold and constructive step toward national unity and development.
He noted that the government, through the National Resistance Movement (NRM), will support their full reintegration into society so they can play a productive role in building the country.

Museveni also congratulated former political prisoners who were part of the group, saying they had earned the government’s forgiveness by realizing their mistakes and choosing a path of reconciliation.
He cautioned young Ugandans against following politicians he referred to as “bad leaders” in NUP and some sections of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

According to the President, such leaders mislead youth into confrontations that often result in unnecessary loss of life and have little to offer in terms of tangible solutions to the nation’s challenges.
Museveni encouraged young people to focus on education, skills development and wealth creation initiatives supported by the government.

He reiterated that Uganda’s progress depends on unity, discipline and practical action rather than divisive or reckless politics.
The meeting at Kololo underscored the government’s commitment to reconciliation and the promotion of peace as the country prepares for future political engagements.
