Breaking News: Rev. Canon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale Elected as Fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese

KAMPALA, Uganda – In a significant development for the Church of Uganda, the House of Bishops has elected Rev. Canon Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale as the fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese, succeeding Rt. Rev. Dr. Moses Naimanhe Mukembo, whose 10-year tenure ends in December 2025. The announcement was made today during a session at Lweza Training and Conference Centre, marking a milestone for the diocese centered in Jinja.

Lubaale, a respected academic and cleric, will be consecrated and enthroned on December 14, 2025, at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja. Born on October 9, 1978, in Bugombya Zone, Butansi Parish, Kamuli District, he accepted Christ in 1994 and was ordained as a deacon in the Diocese of Kampala in 2008, becoming a priest the following year. In November 2024, he was installed as Canon for Education and Training at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala.

An Associate Professor at Kyambogo University in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Lubaale holds a PhD in Development Studies, two Master’s degrees in Theology and Development Studies, and a Bachelor’s in Arts with Education. He is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe, and they have four children. His election highlights his expertise in education, human rights, theology, and community development, areas where he has served as an advocate, consultant, evangelist, and counselor for over two decades.

The news has been celebrated across Ugandan media and social platforms, with outlets like NTV Uganda, COU Family TV, and Baba TV Uganda reporting the development. Lubaale’s background in academia and ministry positions him to lead Busoga Diocese, which spans eastern Uganda, in fostering spiritual growth, education, and social initiatives amid the Church of Uganda’s broader efforts, including recent commissioning of a Provincial Tribunal for internal disputes.

This election comes as the Church of Uganda continues to expand its influence, with Lubaale’s multifaceted career expected to bring fresh perspectives to pastoral care, discipleship, and community empowerment in Busoga. Congratulations to Rev. Lubaale and the diocese from Trending UG. Stay tuned for more updates.
