Five UPDF soldiers sustained injuries in a road accident on the scenic Kisoro-Rubuguri highway, adding a somber note to what was supposed to be a celebratory journey from belated women’s day festivities in Kisoro district.
The mishap occurred near Kamenankuli, close to Rubuguri playground, when a Uganda Prisons truck carrying the soldiers lost control, overturning multiple times.
Eyewitness Joshua Ainembabazi recounted the frightening incident, noting that the truck appeared to be speeding before the driver lost control.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, confirmed the accident, stating that the injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at Rubuguri Health Center IV.
The Rubuguri-Kisoro Road, nestled in the picturesque Bukimbiri constituency, is known for its hilly terrain and serves as a vital artery for transportation in the region. Despite its natural beauty, the area grapples with poor road infrastructure, highlighting the need for improved connectivity and safety measures along this vital route.
