President Museveni’s Agricultural Empowerment Initiative: A Path to Prosperity

President Museveni has announced a bold initiative to support farmers across Uganda by providing essential agricultural equipment to every parish and sub-county in the districts. The aim is to streamline agricultural activities and boost productivity in the sector.

Joined by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, the President hosted a group of residents from Kiruhura and Kazo Districts at their country home in Rwakitura on Monday.

The meeting followed a field visit by the group to Richard Nyakana’s model farm in Rwengaju, Fort Portal.

During the gathering, President Museveni encouraged residents to embrace commercial agriculture and focus on profitable enterprises. He cited Nyakana’s success, earning over Shs188m annually from just one acre of land through dairy and poultry farming, as an example for others to follow.

The President urged farmers to explore dairy farming, coffee growing, poultry farming, fish farming, and food crop cultivation for significant returns.

To further support agricultural development, President Museveni pledged to establish a demonstration farm similar to Nyakana’s model at Nshaara government ranch, benefiting the Western region and the entire country.

In addition to agricultural advice, Museveni cautioned against land fragmentation, advocating for beneficiaries to receive shares in inherited property rather than dividing it into smaller plots.

He emphasized the importance of leaders prioritizing poverty alleviation over politics and compared their role to that of doctors, tasked with identifying and resolving community problems.

During the interaction, residents praised President Museveni for inspiring them to engage in commercial agriculture and create wealth. They pledged to mobilize Ugandans to adopt the “ekibaro” approach to wealth creation.

The First Lady commended the group for embracing the President’s advice and urged them to continue working hard to improve their livelihoods and those of their communities.
