Kampala Woman Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Shamim Malende, continues to demonstrate the dual qualities of leadership—commitment to political duty and compassion for fellow Ugandans. In recent days, she has stood out both at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere Kavule, where she presented herself for vetting, and at the burial of the late father of Mukono Municipality MP, Hon. Betty Nambooze, where she expressed solidarity and empathy.

On social media, Malende informed her supporters that she had arrived at the NUP offices for vetting, saying: “Already at NUP offices Makerere Kavule for vetting. Thank you for the love and support my people.” Her words were widely shared and celebrated by party members and the general public as a sign of her dedication to NUP’s internal democratic processes and her readiness to continue representing the people of Kampala with integrity.
In a separate but equally significant moment, Malende joined mourners in paying her respects during the burial of Hon. Betty Nambooze’s father. Through her condolence message, she emphasized the importance of unity, compassion, and standing with one another during times of grief. Her presence and words of comfort highlighted the human face of political leadership, reminding Ugandans that true service goes beyond legislation and party structures—it also involves sharing in the joys and sorrows of the community.

These two events, though different in nature, capture the essence of Malende’s political journey: a blend of professionalism, resilience, and empathy. As she undergoes party vetting for future political roles, her ability to balance official responsibility with humane gestures strengthens her image as a leader who not only defends justice in Parliament but also connects with the everyday struggles and emotions of her people.
For many Ugandans, Malende’s actions reaffirm that politics should not be divorced from humanity. By combining firmness in political processes with compassion in moments of personal loss, she continues to embody the values of service, accountability, and solidarity that the opposition has long championed.
