Kampala, Uganda – September 29, 2025 – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the long-standing chairman and presidential flagbearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), electrified party cadres today as he officially launched the party’s 2026-2031 manifesto at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The event, themed “From Securing Our Future to Protecting the Gains,” drew top NRM leaders, including First Lady Janet Museveni and members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), marking the kickoff of the ruling party’s campaign push ahead of the January 2026 elections.
In a rousing address, Museveni emphasized continuity, economic stability, and safeguarding Uganda’s hard-won achievements under NRM’s decades-long rule since 1986. “We are today launching a manifesto under the theme, protecting the gains as we make more,” Museveni declared, highlighting priorities like youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and five-year growth targets. Party Director of Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Dombo, underscored the manifesto’s grounded approach, stating, “We don’t promise air,” in a jab at opposition pledges.
The launch featured high-energy moments, with Museveni and the First Lady arriving to cheers from gathered supporters. Visuals from the event show packed halls at Munyonyo, where CEC members convened earlier in the day to finalize strategies. This comes amid Museveni’s broader campaign rollout, starting in Kampala to shore up urban support before heading to Luweero and northern districts.
As the incumbent, Museveni’s manifesto builds on past successes, positioning NRM as the steward of Uganda’s progress while addressing criticisms of authoritarianism. With the elections looming, this launch sets the tone for NRM’s defense of its dominance, urging voters to “protect the gains” against opposition challenges.
