On September 24, 2025, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, embarked on a journey that would etch his name deeper into Uganda’s political history.
The day began in the early hours at his Magere residence, where preparations were underway for a significant event: his official nomination as a presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.

As dawn broke, Bobi Wine, accompanied by his wife Barbie Itungo and a close-knit team, set out towards the Electoral Commission offices in Lubowa.
The streets of Kampala were already alive with anticipation, with supporters lining the roads, chanting his name and waving banners.
Despite the heavy presence of security forces and the occasional disruption, the convoy pressed on, symbolizing resilience and determination.

Upon reaching the Electoral Commission, Bobi Wine submitted his nomination papers, officially entering the race against incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking a record seventh term in office.
This marks a significant moment in Uganda’s political landscape, as the 43-year-old opposition leader challenges a long-standing regime.
Later in the day, Bobi Wine addressed a rally in Nateete, where he spoke passionately about his vision for a “new Uganda.”

He emphasized the importance of unity, justice, and accountability, urging citizens to actively participate in the electoral process and safeguard their votes.
His message resonated deeply with the crowd, reaffirming his commitment to the people and the promise of change.
This nomination is not just a political milestone for Bobi Wine but also a testament to the enduring spirit of Ugandans yearning for transformation.
As the 2026 elections approach, all eyes will be on this historic contest, where the aspirations of a nation are set to be realized.
