Fatal Collision Claims UPDF Major’s Life in Mabira Forest Tragedy

A tragic incident in Mabira Forest claimed the life of a UPDF soldier, Major Habib Nsamba Katakabire, after his vehicle collided head-on with a trailer while attempting to overtake a line of vehicles.

According to SP Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa police region spokesperson, the accident occurred around 1 pm on Friday at Sanga-Mabira, near the new picnic site along the Kampala-Jinja highway.

Reports suggest that Major Katakabire, driving a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 with registration number UBQ 424N from Kampala to Jinja, attempted to overtake vehicles and collided with a Howo Trailer with registration number UBP, traveling from Jinja.

The collision caused the Toyota Land Cruiser to roll over and strike another vehicle, a Toyota Premio with registration number UBP 411L, driven by a police officer from Bweyogerere police.

Tragically, Major Nsamba lost his life at the scene, while the trailer driver, Muhammad Kasozi, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kawolo Hospital.

The deceased’s body has been transferred to Kawolo hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, and the three vehicles involved have been impounded at Mabira Police Station yard pending inspection.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing, with initial findings attributing the cause to careless overtaking by the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser V8
