Healthcare Halted at Jinja Hospital as Medics Protest Over Disputed Prime Land

Jinja Regional Referral Hospital’s healthcare services have come to a standstill as medical staff participate in a peaceful protest over a disputed piece of prime land in the city.

Dressed in their medical attire, the medics blocked the hospital’s main gate as part of their demonstration.

The dispute centers on a 4-acre plot of land, used by the Muslim community as a cemetery since 1927, located along Clive Road West, adjacent to Jinja Hospital and Bax Road.

During last week’s Eid Day celebrations, the Muslim community in Jinja prayed on the contested land and pledged to retain it, advocating for development initiatives to take place there.

However, Jinja Hospital remains firm in its claim to the land, stating their intention to use it for medical development.

Police, led by the DPC of Jinja Central Police Division, have been deployed in and around the hospital in response to the situation.

The contested land was handed over to the Jinja Muslim community by the State Minister for Lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja, last month.
