Unlocking the Future: X Goes Global with Passkey Login Feature

In a significant stride towards enhancing security and user experience, the renowned social network X (formerly Twitter) has expanded its support for passkey login on a global scale. Initially introduced earlier this year exclusively for iOS users in the US, the passkey feature is now accessible worldwide.

The announcement of the global rollout was made by X through its official Safety account, marking a milestone in the platform’s ongoing commitment to bolstering security measures. “Passkeys is now available as a login option for everyone globally on iOS! Try it out,” the company declared in a post on Monday. X emphasizes that utilizing passkeys enhances account security by rendering them less vulnerable to phishing attacks and unauthorized access, as these passkeys are uniquely generated by the user’s device.

Powered by technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with tech giants like Apple, Google, and Microsoft, passkey login offers a revolutionary alternative to conventional passwords. By leveraging secure methods such as facial recognition or biometrics, passkey login eliminates the need for users to create and input a traditional passcode, thereby streamlining the authentication process and fortifying account protection.

Following the discontinuation of support for SMS 2FA (two-factor authentication), X advises users to transition to alternative authentication methods using reputable apps like 1Password, iCloud Keychain, or Google Authenticator. For those adamant about retaining SMS 2FA, subscription to X Premium is required.

Enabling passkey login on your X account is a seamless process:

  1. Open the X app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on your profile picture located in the top left corner.
  3. Navigate to Settings and Support, then proceed to Settings and Privacy.
  4. Select Security and Account Access.
  5. Choose the Security option.
  6. Activate the Passkey toggle and confirm your selection by entering your current password.

For X users eager to leverage the newfound security benefits of passkey login, ensure that you’ve downloaded the latest version of the app from the App Store. Detailed instructions on enabling passkeys on X can be found here. Embrace the future of authentication with X’s globally accessible passkey login feature
