Ten arrested over theft of Museveni’s cattle

In a significant breakthrough, security operatives have apprehended 10 suspects associated with the theft of cattle from the State farm in Gomba District. The suspects, all identified as cattle dealers hailing from various villages within the district, were taken into custody following a joint operation conducted by the Flying Squad Unit (FSU) in collaboration with territorial teams at Katonga Region and Gomba Central Police Station.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the arrests were made after at least five cows disappeared under suspicious circumstances from the farm on March 29. Investigations led security forces to focus on Robert Nyanzi, a cattle dealer from Lwekibira village, who was allegedly involved in purchasing stolen cows from the State farm.

“His arrest subsequently led to the apprehension of five other cattle dealers,” Enanga revealed during a media briefing on Monday.

In a startling revelation, Enanga disclosed that four additional individuals, including a veterinary officer, a cattle dealer, a peasant, and a farm manager, were also arrested on March 5, indicating possible insider involvement in the cattle theft syndicate.

“In unravelling the cattle theft racket, we discovered that the dealers conspired with workers at the state farm,” Enanga elaborated.

He commended the collaborative efforts of the Flying Squad Unit teams and territorial security in Gomba, underscoring the police’s unwavering dedication to dismantling criminal networks engaged in cattle theft.

The ongoing intelligence-led operations demonstrate the authorities’ resolve to hold all responsible parties accountable for their roles in perpetrating cattle theft from the state farm.
