Fashion luminary Oscar Nyesiga, popularly known as Oscar Kampala, seized the spotlight at the illustrious Forty Under 40 Africa Awards ceremony held at Nairobi’s Radisson Blu Hotel on March 30, 2024. As the Founder and CEO of Oscar Kampala Collection, he clinched a prestigious accolade in the fiercely competitive Fashion Category, triumphing over other industry titans.
Expressing gratitude on his social media platforms following his momentous win, Kampala attributed his success to the unwavering trust and support of his clientele. Reflecting on his humble beginnings, he recounted his journey from high school, where his passion for fashion first took root in 2015.
“From humble beginnings in high school, where I simply helped friends update their closets as a hobby, to now achieving global recognition, I am overwhelmed. This recent accolade adds to Oscar’s impressive list of achievements in the fashion industry. In 2023, he was hailed as the Best Young Entrepreneur at the Zikomo Awards in Lusaka, Zambia, where he clinched two prestigious awards: Best Fashion Brand in Africa and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Moreover, Oscar’s sartorial genius has attracted a roster of high-profile clientele, including renowned figures like Eddy Kenzo, Kizz Daniel, Jidenna, and FireBoy DML, among others.
In an exclusive interview with Mpasho’s Dennis Milimo, Oscar Kampala revealed that his brand was born out of a passion for fashion back in 2015 when he was still in high school. “Oscar is my real name, then Kampala is the brand. My real name is Oscar Nyasiga (which means trust). Kampala is a name I came up with back in High School when I started the brand in 2015. At that time, I was in Form Three,” shared Oscar.
